PTSA
Why should you join the PTSA? The PTA is the largest child advocacy group in the USA . With 6,000,000 members nationwide, and 36,000 members in Orange County , the PTA has clout and a powerful voice in Government and local policymaking. By having a large membership in our school, it gives us a strong voice to be able to make a difference, in our school, in our local community and in the laws that affect our children. As well, as a PTSA member, we will keep you informed on the current issues and trends affecting children, and provide you with a wealth of information and resources available through the state and local PTA chapters. MEMBERSHIP - We will have a membership table set up in the Cafeteria during Meet Your Teacher. We have five levels of membership this year, an individual membership for $7.00, and family memberships for $25.00, $50.00, $100.00 and a Diamond Membership for $250.00. We have great incentives this year, so please come visit our table and check it out! Become a member of the Gotha PTSA this year and give us your support. Membership is not for life, it must be renewed each year. Membership applications will come home in your child's GMS Welcome Back packet and are also available at the front office. VOLUNTEERS (or “Additions”, as OCPS calls it!) A reminder for those wishing to volunteer on campus or to be chaperones on field trips, an ADDitions Volunteer Application must be completed each year. Please visit www.ocps.net on the Web, click on Additions Online Application and follow the directions to fill out an application for the 2007-08 school year. It sometimes can take a few weeks to be approved, so it is advisable to take care of this at the start of school so that we don't run into any issues later on. The system is already operational, so you can register online for additions today! They have changed the web site quite a bit, so if it is easier, you can just click on this link: Additions Application . In addition to filling out your volunteer application on line, you can now also log in and out on your home computer, and if any of you have hours already this summer, you can now enter them yourself. You can even post date them by changing the date and time of sign in. Or, you can simply e-mail our additions coordinator, Pam Larimer, plarimer@cfl.rr.com , and send your hours to her. It is important for us to know how many volunteer hours we log each year at Gotha Middle School, so please don't forget to sign in and out! \
The cost of keeping a Registered Nurse in our clinic is $31,000.00 a year. Orange County Public Schools contributes $14,400.00 and the remaining $16,500.00 is up to each school to raise. GMS is asking for a donation of $20.00 per child to help us keep our nurse. This donation will also help sponsor less fortunate children at GMS. Your efforts will guarantee that our students' needs are treated and attended to individually and professionally by the school nurse for the coming year. Thank you for your generosity! Donation forms will come home in your child's GMS Welcome Back packet, and are also available in the front office. Please make your donation payable to Health Central Foundation. A Message From the PTSA President Hello Gotha Middle School Family! Welcome to a new school year! The PTSA has great plans for the 2007-08 school year. With the help of our members, we will continue to provide support to the teachers, students and administration through a number of projects and services. We are all very proud of our Gotha students and faculty for consistently achieving an “A” rating. The PTSA is committed to helping maintain that level of excellence, and we hope you will join us! We have heard that you may find it difficult to get connected and to find a way to be involved at the middle school level. We want to try to change that, so one of our goals for this year is to get many more parents involved so you can feel more included in your child's education. We have many opportunities to do just that, and we are working on breaking things down into manageable pieces so that more of you can get involved without a major time commitment. We have several open Committee Chair positions that will allow you to be able to attend our monthly Board Meetings, on the first Tuesday of every month at 10:00 am. This is a great opportunity to have face time with the principal, to stay informed of happenings around GMS, and to be a part of the decisions that are made with regard to our school. The following are the current open Committee Chair positions: Public Relations/Publicity Partners in Education Community Cash-Backs Legislative Fundraising 8th Grade Dance Grizzly Greats Breakfasts PTSA Social Events Parent Education If there is anything on this list that is of interest to you, please contact me, Sharon Wolber, PTSA President for GMS, so I can give you more information about it. I can be reached at home at (407) 290-3204, or by e-mail, SLWolber@aol.com . If you are not interested in a Committee Chair position, but would like to be involved in the one of these committees, we welcome that as well! We will have a PTSA table set up at Open House on Sept 24th and 25th, so please come by and visit us so we can tell you about all the many ways you can get connected! If you simply cannot support the PTA with your time, then please consider becoming a member and giving your financial support, so that we can continue to provide our school with great programs, activities and equipment that benefit all our children. The membership forms can be found in your child's Welcome Packet, and are also available at the Front Office. I am very excited for the coming year, and for what we will be able to achieve for our school, together. Sincerely, Sharon Wolber GMS PTSA Executive Board 2007-2008
